Blogs that I religiously check

What are some of my favorite blogs? Well you’re about to find out. I have to admit I’ve been slacking on keeping up with all the blogs I follow. With classes, homework, work (I’m sure you all get it) there’s just very little time for […]

ThinkDirty app that makes you think clean

ThinkDirty app that makes you think clean

The other day I was required to find an app for a high school health class…Physical Education assignments can sometimes be strange. After a hour searching the internet (aka Pinterest) for the perfect app, I almost gave up. Yes, really. No one should spend a […]

The Perfect Bedtime for College Students

The Perfect Bedtime for College Students

I lied- I don’t really believe there’s a perfect time for college students to go to bed.

Every person is different in what time they need to sleep. Some people needs nap, some {crazy} people don’t.

I go to bed usually before 9:30 every night. And by bed, I mean I’m asleep by 9:30.

It seem crazy for some of you, right? But hear me out.

I’ve always been a morning person. Maybe not entirely morning (cause 6AM is just a tad too early), but I’m definitely not a night owl.

So whenever I fall asleep after 11PM or so, the next morning I feel like absolute shit. And to make it worse I can’t really sleep in past 9AM. My body naturally wakes me up at 7, and I’m lucky if I’m able to go back to sleep.

So I usually get around 10 hours of sleep each night. Which seems crazy for a college student. With homework, classes, working, seeing friends, eating, and showering..sometimes 8 hours of sleep just isn’t possible. But I’ve made my bedtime a priority in my life and I believe you can do it to. Here are some tips.

  1. If your homework isn’t finished by 10 (and isn’t due by 12midnight) wake up early the next morning to complete it. In high school, if my homework wasn’t done by 10PM I was a mess, and stressed, so I just went to sleep to save my family the trouble of my aggressiveness.
  2. Don’t go on your phone before you go to bed. This seems difficult right? But I always have difficultly going to sleep when I’ve been browsing through Instagram right before I go to bed. So set your alarm, put your phone down, do all your nightly routines (like using the face mask mentioned in this post), then go to bed WITHOUT TOUCHING YOUR PHONE. Got it? Maybe even read a book (Kindle doesn’t count-keep to real life books that don’t require technology).

  1. Get into a routine. It doesn’t work if you just go to bed at 9PM once a week and 12AM the rest. Your body is going to be awake until 12 just because that’s usually when you’re going to sleep. Your body adapts- now get it going in the right direction.

Going to bed early might be difficult- but your body will thank you. Partying and stay up late now might be ‘cool’, but your healthy skin and lack of under eye bags will thank you when your husband shopping in a couple of years.

My Experience at the DryBar

My Experience at the DryBar

I don’t know about everyone else, but I hate doing my hair. Like with a passion.

My hair isn’t always unruly, but I’d say a good 90% the Virginia humidity makes me want to have a Britney moment.

So when I need my hair to cooperate I set up an appointment at the DryBar.

The DryBar is something I discovered on The Skinny Confidential. I mean, if Lauren says it’s amazing than I trust her opinion.

So my first try I drove over to Tyson’s Corner at 5pm and the place was packed. They told me I would have to wait a hour to be seen. So I said nope and went home and immediately booked an account with them. The online scheduling was simple to use (they also have an app I now use) and I was booked for the next day.

My actual experience at the DryBar was pretty good. They wash your hair and ask you lots of questions so they stick with your routine. I mean, I’ve never had my hair dresser ask if I condition my roots or not…and that’s a pretty important question.

Their products also smell great and can be bought online and in store. I use their dry shampoo (as mentioned in My Top Five Target Finds) and I’ve managed to only wash my hair twice a week. It’s amazing.

My only recommendation is to make sure the hair dresser really knows what you want. The first time I went my hair was a tad too curly. So the next time I went I made sure they knew exactly what I was talking about and they got it right. Don’t be afraid to talk to them- you’re paying good money for your hair.

Oh, I think I forgot to mention that they also serve champagne to those of age. It’s amazing. They also have water and tea for those who aren’t fans.

So the next time you feel like treating yourself head to the DryBar. Even if you don’t have a big event you can get a great blow dry and not wash your hair for like, a whole 6 days.

Get gifts while being active- The OutdoorNation App

Get gifts while being active- The OutdoorNation App

Have you ever been required to take a class that was kind of a joke? Like you barely learned anything pertaining to your major and you got full credit for it? Well that was my Outdoor Leadership class.

Although the class wasn’t the highlight of my Fridays (cause no one takes Friday classes unless they’re required or you’re a freshman), there was one activity that I still remember.

I feel the need to preface that I’m kind of competitive..maybe more than ‘kind of’. So this app/website resonated with me because I like winning and I love getting free stuff. Think lame pens, candy and shirts.

As a class requirement we had to download the OutdoorNation app and post a couple of times throughout the semester. But the top class posters got free stuff from our teacher. And well, free stuff is the best.

So what is OutdoorNation?

OutdoorNation is an app from On Campus where students and faculty post images of them doing stuff outside. Depending on the activity you’re doing, you get a range of points. Walking is 1 point, where as something like snowboarding is 5 points (yes, snowboarding, this competition takes place at many schools).

REI and other brands sponsor the app. So they give out prizes to schools based on certain assignments. A girl in my class won a hammock because she went camping with friends. I wasn’t dedicated enough to brave the outdoors, but Katie camps all the time and will be posting about it soon.

The only downside to the app is that not all schools are doing it. So if you need a school, choose George Mason University to help a girl out. I think the winning school gets a prize..but I wouldn’t know cause our school never gets in to the top ten. We suck.

If free stuff isn’t a motivator for you, then you’re kind of helpless. Sorry.

Oh. And the competition only lasts from September 18th to October 15th. So you might want to add the app now.
